New Bedford Yard Sales Rank Among the Worst in the Nation
New Bedford may serve tasty seafood, have eye-popping ocean vistas and offer an unmatched cultural experience, but the city's yard sales are the absolute worst.
Hey, don't shoot the messenger.
Lawn Love's "Bargain Hunting: 2024's Best Cities For Scouring Garage Sales" is out, and the news is bad for local yard sale enthusiasts.
The lawn care specialists have released a list of the top 500 yard sale cities in the country, and New Bedford ranks near the bottom in 486th place. Even Fall River ranks higher than New Bedford at 484.
The only bright side to this is that two other Massachusetts communities fare worse than New Bedford: Somerville ranks at 491 and Lawrence at 492.
The survey has slightly better news for Quincy (482), Lynn (481), Lowell (480) and Cambridge (479). Boston comes in at 474.
Our friends in Rhode Island also have lousy yard sales. Providence lands in 475th place, while Pawtucket ranks 470th.
No Massachusetts or Rhode Island community broke the top 300 on Lawn Love's list. In Massachusetts, Newton came in at 327, Springfield at 435, Worcester at 448 and Brockton at 456. Cranston, Rhode Island finished 376th, while Warwick landed at 436th.
The top 10 cities in the nation for quality yard sales are Los Angeles, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago, Houston, Fort Worth, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Wichita and Portland, Oregon.
Lawn Love says, "We compared the 500 biggest cities based on four categories. More specifically, we looked at the number of yard sales and estate sales, yard size, and share of homes with garages, among ten total metrics."
The company's methodology in ranking the top 500 cities is explained in-depth on the Lawn Love website.
