Fun 107 Surprises Greater New Bedford Voc Teacher During Civics Class
Students at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School got quite the surprise Tuesday morning when the MGM Show walked interrupted a civics class to honor one of their teachers.
Michael Rock, Gazelle and Michaela stopped by to surprise social studies teacher, Brandon Andrade, with the latest Teacher of the Month award on Fun 107.
A Surprise Inside the Classroom
The recognition came after a heartfelt nomination from student Kiara Mascarenhas, who praised Andrade for his engaging teaching style and dedication to student success.
According to the nomination, Andrade goes above and beyond to connect with students, making lessons interesting while ensuring everyone feels supported in the classroom.
Why Students and Staff Took Notice
The MGM Show explained that they receive hundreds of nominations each month from across the SouthCoast, making the selection process extremely competitive. Andrade stood out not only because of his impact in the classroom, but also for the way he supports students outside of school.
Colleagues confirmed that Andrade takes time to learn about his students’ lives, even attending sporting events to show his support.
Humanities Administrator Meghan Lacasse was thrilled with Andrade's recognition. "Brandon is very talented at making relationships with his students. He makes it his business to know his students inside and out, even showing up to their games. He's a coach on top of all of this, and really plays to his students' personal interests in order to enhance their skills in social studies. He's interactive and has a really big heart for teaching, so it doesn't surprise me that he's been named Fun 107's Teacher of the Month."
Teacher Gives Back
A New Bedford native and Voc graduate, Andrade said returning to teach was always part of his goal. Now in his tenth year in education, he uses his own experiences to relate to students and help guide them.
Andrade won a gift bag from Jonathan Sprouts. He also won a BJ's membership, a $200 BJ's gift card, and a big screen, Smart TV all thanks to a generous donation from Vermette Development.
