UPDATE: A New Bedford Police spokeswoman tells WBSM News the student was arrested and charged with making threats.

NEW BEDFORD — A student at a New Bedford middle school has been disciplined after allegedly making a threat towards the school.

Arthur Motta, Community and Public Affairs Manager for New Bedford Public Schools, tells WBSM News the student at Keith Middle School made a verbal threat against the school during class on Monday.

Motta says the student was immediately taken to the head office and "disciplinary consequences were served."

Police determined the threat to be baseless, according to Motta.

New Bedford Police have not responded to several inquiries from WBSM News as to whether the student had been arrested and/or charged in relation to the threat.

Students in the class were addressed immediately and their parents were informed of the incident by the principal and the assistant principal.

Motta says parents were made aware that counseling is available for any concerns their children may have as a result of the student's behavior.
