For the past couple of years or so, I've passed the site of the old Deja Vu lounge that was once operational on Pope's Island in New Bedford but is now nothing more than an empty space.

However, recently it appears to have some new life and construction stirring about the property. The question is though, what could possibly be going up in that location?

On Facebook, the rumor mill is pointing towards a strip mall (no pun intended) that would host multiple retail stores, but it's still too early to know at this point. I reached out to my good friends over at Couto Construction who are behind the construction project and they weren't clear as to what it may or may not be.

Suggestions online ran the gamut from a possible Trader Joe's, a Chic-fil-A or even a roller-skating center since there's no longer one in the Fairhaven-New Bedford area, but what piqued my interest the most was the suggestion of having Fun 107 studios moved to the location. I mean, it makes sense since our radio tower is in the exact same plaza, but we're pretty happy with our current location and we aren't going anywhere.

Perhaps it is the new home to some retail stores; it would be nice to see something local or a mom-and-pop place rather than a big box store or chain. It's still too early to tell at this point on the timeline, but let it be known that I'll be on the trail to further answers once I find out myself.

We reached out to Derek Santos, Executive Director of the New Bedford Economic Development Council, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Have any leads or even some ideas you'd like to see over in that location? Shoot me an email at Gazelle@Fun107.com. I'd love to chat with you on the discussion.
