Two New Bedford churches are joining together to present a spiritual start to Holy Week.

Volunteers from St. Anthony's Church and Immaculate Conception Church have organized a re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross this Sunday, Palm Sunday, at Brooklawn Park in the North End.

Sister Mary of the Transfiguration joined Townsquare Sunday to discuss the re-enactment.

"During Lent, it's an important time to unite with Jesus' Passion, and to really re-live it," she said.

This is the second year of the outdoor Stations of the Cross, and according to Sister Mary, the presentation is quite elaborate.

"This is not a small thing," she said. "There are around 55 people involved, all volunteers from both parishes. We present all 14 stations, and after each one, there is meditation and prayers."

The program will actually start at 3 p.m. Sunday at the steps of St. Joseph's Church, across from Brooklawn Park. The actors and spectators will then proceed to the park where the 14 stations will continue. The re-enactment will take about an hour and 15 minutes.

Sister Mary saif her goal is to have more people attend the re-enactment and enter into the Passion of Christ.

"It's different when you see it live," she said. "There are pictures and movies, but if you haven't had a connection with Jesus yet, many times a play or performance can make that happen. See what Jesus did for you."

Townsquare Sunday is a community affairs program heard Sunday mornings on WBSM.

The program highlights individuals and and organizations seeking to make the SouthCoast a better place to live and work.
