New Bedford Stabbing Victim in Hospital, Police Seek Suspect

NEW BEDFORD — The victim in a stabbing in downtown New Bedford just before midnight last night was taken to Rhode Island hospital with multiple stab wounds, according to police.

The victim's current condition is unknown.

Police are still seeking a suspect in the incident, which was reported at around 11:20 p.m. Thursday night at 141 Union St.

It is described in police logs as an assault and battery with "serious bodily injury" and an aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police described the suspect as a stocky Black man with a long beard, about five feet nine inches tall, who was wearing a black hat and light grey khaki shorts.

The location of the incident is an address belonging to a People's Pressed juice bar, although the establishment closes at 3 p.m. on weekdays.

It is unclear if the incident took place outside.

New Bedford police had posted a notice on Facebook just after midnight letting residents know that the increased police presence was due to the investigation of the stabbing.

The investigation is ongoing.

No further details have been disclosed.
