NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police are investigating an incident of shots fired that occurred late Tuesday night in the city’s North End.

According to police, officers responded just before 12 a.m. on January 6 to the area of Hathaway Road for a reported motor vehicle crash. Officers arrived and learned that the incident involved shots being fired at the vehicle.

Investigating officers located multiple shell casings in the area of Shawmut Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Police Say No Threat to Public

Police said that the preliminary findings indicate it was an isolated, domestic-related incident. They said the individuals were known to each other.

“There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the general public,” police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
