NEW BEDFORD — A shooting in New Bedford early Sunday morning injured two people who were treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police confirmed.

New Bedford police said that at around 4 a.m. Sunday, patrol units responded to a shots fired call near Acushnet Avenue and Blackmer Street in the city's South End.

One gunshot victim was found at the scene and immediately taken to the hospital, with a second victim arriving at the hospital via private transport a short time later, according to police and scanner chatter.

Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police did not say whether a suspect is in custody, or disclose any further details.

The shooting remains under investigation.
