New Bedford Police Help Bring Hope to Toddler Battling Leukemia
The New Bedford Police Department recently teamed up with Cops for Kids with Cancer to bring much-needed relief to a local family facing an unimaginable battle.
On Monday, the department presented a $5,500 donation to the family of 18-month-old Mia, who is courageously fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
The contribution, made possible by the Cops for Kids with Cancer organization, is intended to ease some of the financial burdens that come with medical treatment.
In addition to the donation, officers also brought gifts for Mia’s siblings, ensuring they felt the support of their community during this difficult time. The department has vowed to continue assisting the family with any resources they may need as they navigate this journey.
The presentation was made possible with the help of Tom Reed from Cops for Kids with Cancer, a nonprofit that has donated over $5 million to families across Massachusetts and New England. Made up of current and former law enforcement officers, the organization works tirelessly to provide financial relief to families of children battling cancer.
“Our hearts are with Mia and her family as they fight this battle,” the New Bedford Police Department shared on social media. “We hope this support brings some comfort and strength in their time of need.”
This act of kindness is just one of the many ways New Bedford police officers continue to go beyond the badge to make a difference in their community.
