New Bedford Man Gets Jail Time for Bus Knife Incident

NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man has been sentenced after he threatened passengers with a knife on a SRTA bus and assaulted a female passenger last December.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said 29-year-old Dazzmen Parades will serve two years in jail after he was convicted last week on assault charges.

Parades was traveling from New Bedford to Fairhaven on a city SRTA bus on Dec. 19, 2020 when he pulled a knife on the bus and threatened passengers, physically assaulting one woman, the D.A.'s office stated.

According to testimony, Parades was rapping to himself on the bus when a 34-year-old woman looked at him.

He responded, asking "What?" and saying "You know who I am! I am D-Drizzy," according to the trial testimony.

Parades then got up, pulled a knife from his belt, and made a thrusting motion towards the victim.

Other victims then yelled for the driver to stop the bus.

When officers arrived, they removed Parades from the bus.

But as he was being escorted off, he elbowed the woman in the head.

The D.A.'s office stated that Parades has a 10-page criminal record, with six open cases in district court at the time of the trial.

He was convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.
