New Bedford Lovebird and Dog Go Viral for Unlikely Friendship
An unlikely duo out of New Bedford is proving that friendships come in all different shapes, sizes, and species.
Mango the lovebird and Bella the Bolognese puppy are completely and totally inseparable, and their friendship has gotten national attention as social media users follow their adventures online.
The Trezon family brought Bella home around 13 years ago, but when Faith Trezon had a unique interaction with a parakeet, she knew she wanted to add a bird to the family tree.
“I went to Fort Taber and a bird fell on me,” she said. “I fell in love with this bird. It got sick and ended up dying shortly after, but I was so committed to getting another bird after that.”
Truth be told, her mother Corie was not a fan of the idea.
“I’m not a bird person, but Faith presented all of this research on how she could take care of it, and my husband eventually convinced me,” Corie said.
“My dad thinks he is an animal whisperer,” joked Faith, noting he was always on board with the idea.
The family brought home Mango the lovebird, and it was the beginning of a friendship that the Trezon family never saw coming.
“When you get a lovebird, you have to get a second lovebird or they’ll be depressed,” Faith said. “We thought he would bond with me or my dad, but we never expected him to bond with Bella.”
And bond they did. From day one, the two have been the best of friends. Mango will follow Bella wherever she goes. They play together, take naps together, and even eat together.

“Mango will be on her back, go grab some food from Bella’s bowl, then go right on her back and eat it,” Faith said. She and her family watched their unexpected friendship blossom, and when she shared a video of them on TikTok, Mango and Bella quickly became internet stars.
The TikTok went viral and people from all over began following the life of Mango and Bella, the unlikely besties from New Bedford.

“People love to watch Mango ride on Bella’s back and they love to see them outside together,” Corie said.
Media outlets like People magazine and The Dodo reached out to the Trezons, wanting to know more about this quirky couple. Now they entertain their followers with daily photos and videos of Mango and Bella.
I think we can learn a thing or two from Mango and Bella. The power of friendship is a precious thing, and when two unlikely characters find each other, you can’t help but smile.
