New Bedford Store Schools Us on Labubu Hype
The Labubu craze is everywhere so I had a New Bedford store school me on what the hype is all about.
If you have a school-age child, you have probably been asked numerous times to get them a Labubu. You then also know that they are pretty hard to find, as they are sold out just about everywhere.
A retail store in downtown New Bedford called USEVEN has been getting weekly shipments of the in-demand plush toys, so we got a little intel.

What Is a Labubu?
Christian, the operations manager over at the shop, explained what a Labubu is.
"A Pop Mart Labubu is a collectible designer toy from the The Monsters series by artist Kasing Lung, known for its mischievous, elf-like appearance," Christian said. "But the hype is that each Labubu is sold in blind boxes, meaning you don’t know what you get until you open it up."
I guess the element of surprise is part of the allure, but being at these toys can range anywhere from $50 to $400, I would want to know what I'm buying.
What Makes Labubu So Popular?
"Thanks to social media and celebrity endorsements the demand for them has grown rapidly," Christian said. "Labubu figures are now fashion accessories, collector’s items and even high-value auction pieces, with some selling for thousands."
It's absolutely insane, if you ask me. USEVEN just got an order last Friday of 10 boxes and were sold out by Saturday. They do anticipate getting more in soon.
I don't get the hype, but I come from the Tamagotchi times, and those things were only like $10- $30. This is just a plush toy that could easily be destroyed by your dog in seconds.
Does anyone have one already? Let's see your Labubu.
