The love of an animal is the greatest blessing a family can have. If you are thinking about bringing a pet into your home, consider adoption.

On Wet Nose Wednesday, we cater to the hundreds of beautiful animals up for adoption on the SouthCoast. With the help of local shelters, we share their stories, and this week, we head to New Bedford where a young lab is starting to come out of her shell.

Meet Candace, a 3-year-old, 50-pound lab mix that has everyone at Lighthouse Animal Shelter in New Bedford completely in love. She is a little timid at first, but once she trusts you, she will gladly give you gentle kisses and ask for belly rubs.

"Candace has got us all wrapped around her little paw," said the shelter. "She's a smarty pants (because) she knows that when volunteers go to hang out with her in her room, she just might get some snacks."

She is starting to show off her sweet personality more every day, and loves to be outside with her fellow dogs during playtime. She'll keep you busy with her love of tug-of-war and chasing tennis balls.

Candace does well with other dogs and even cats. She opens up to females more quickly than men, but with a little patience, she loves just about everyone.

Does Candace sound like a good fit for you? Contact Lighthouse Animal Shelter and schedule a play date today.

If SouthCoast Dogs Had a Dating App, It Would Look Something Like This

August 26 is International Dog Day, and it got me thinking. What if there was a way for dogs to connect with other dogs in the area to make new friends? Or maybe even find love? Twenty-six dogs living on the SouthCoast sent me their profile picture and bio. Let's see the eligible pups.
