New Bedford Seafood Market Overcomes Special Order Setback
Running a small business is rarely predictable, especially in the seafood world. That's where timing, freshness – and in this scenario, trust – all matter. Over the weekend, New Bedford’s Kyler’s Catch Seafood Market faced one of those rare situations that could’ve easily turned into a major loss.
A customer placed a massive special order intended for a Rhode Island party of roughly 400 people. We’re talking 200 orders stuffed haddock and 600 jumbo wild shrimp. The team hustled to prepare it all, no easy task even for seasoned seafood pros.
There was just one problem: the pickup never happened.
Calls went unanswered, voicemails piled up, and by closing time, the card on file was declined. While the market made it clear it genuinely hoped nothing serious happened to the customer, it still left Kyler's Catch holding a costly order and dealing with a tough business reality.

Instead of dwelling on the setback, Kyler’s pivoted fast. It announced a one-day special: buy one, get one stuffed haddock and discounted shrimp. The response from the SouthCoast community was immediate and strong.

A Reminder About Community
Situations like this sting financially, but they also highlight something bigger. Loyal customers showed up, spread the word and made sure the market didn’t take the hit alone.
Honestly, that might be the freshest catch of all.
