New Bedford Half Marathon Comes Down To Photo Finish
After 13.1 miles, Sunday's New Bedford Half-Marathon came down to the final few feet to determine a winner.
29 year-old William Sanders of Wetherford, Connecticut beat out Arizona native Jonny Wilson by a hundredth of a second for the photo-finish win.
Sanders finished with an official time of 1:06:12, which he says beats his previous personal record by at least a minute and a half.
"It feels great. I mean, my legs say differently, but, I mean, any time you can go out and win a race and run a PR it's amaizing," Sanders tells WBSM News.
While the women's race didn't have the same drama as the men's side, Erica Jesseman of Scarborough, Maine still finished with an impressive time of 1:14:43.
The 27 year-old runner says the win on Sunday was a much needed confidence boost as she prepares to run the Boston Marathon next month.
The first local to finish the New Bedford Half-Marathon was 22 year-old Fairhaven native, Taylor Days-Merrill, finishing at 1:11:42.
As for New Bedford, the city's first resident to cross the line was Mike Grasela, 25, at a time of 1:17:40.
