New Bedford Feast of the Blessed Sacrament Adds New Nighttime Restriction
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — For the first time ever, New Bedford’s Feast of the Blessed Sacrament is putting an age restriction on feast goers past a certain hour.
New Bedford's Feast Will Be 21-Plus After 8 p.m.
In an announcement today on the Feast’s official Facebook page, the 2026 Feast Committee and the Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento, Inc. stated that on each night of the Feast, which is scheduled for July 31 through August 3, admission after 8 p.m. will be limited to those age 21 and over.
The post stated the decision came “after much thoughtful discussion and consideration.”
Making the Feast Safer During Its Busiest Hours
“Please know that this decision was not made lightly,” the post read. “It reflects our continued efforts to create a safe environment during our busiest evening hours, while still preserving the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that defines the Feast during the day and early evening.”

Security Measures Have Expanded in Recent Years
In a recent appearance on WBSM, Feast Vice President Brandon Travers said security has been an evolving situation with the event, including the addition of barrier fencing and metal detectors in 2023. The 2025 Feast also featured additional security measures, and there will be upgrades again this year.

“We have to change with the times,” Travers said. “We had to beef up security last year. We want to make it safe for families.”
He did say that those under 21 who enter the Feast before 8 p.m. will not be required to exit when the age restriction goes into effect at 8.
Feast Organizers Emphasize Safety and Tradition
In the Facebook post, the Feast reiterated that having a 21-plus restriction after 8 p.m. will help improve safety.
“We understand that change can be difficult, especially for an event that means so much to so many,” the post concluded. “We are proud of the Feast, proud of our heritage, and proud to keep our community safe during these celebrations. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we look forward to celebrating with all of you this summer.”
