NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — The victim in Thursday’s fatal pedestrian incident in New Bedford has been identified and more details released.

Identity of the New Bedford Fatal Crash Victim Released

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn identified the victim as Amy Asker, 67, of New Bedford.

The D.A.’s Office said in a release that New Bedford Police and EMS were dispatched to the area of 79 Mill Street at around 10:10 a.m. on June 4 for the reported pedestrian strike. They arrived to find Asker lying in the roadway with a significant injury.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A tractor trailer was located a short distance from her body. The D.A.’s Office said the operator remained on scene and was cooperative with law enforcement.

Cab Video Reveals Details of the Strike

“An initial investigation revealed the decedent had taken a cab back to her residence on Mill Street just prior to the accident,” the D.A.’s Office said. “Video from the cab appears to show the decedent wander into the roadway as the tractor (trailer) was passing her location.”

Active Investigation on Mill Street

The investigation into the fatal crash is active and ongoing by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, and New Bedford Police.
