Davy’s Locker Was a New Bedford Waterfront Seafood Favorite
Davy's Locker was an iconic seafood restaurant on New Bedford's waterfront for nearly 50 years.
It was the place for locals as well as tourists to secure their fill of fried clams, scallops, fish and chips, and other ocean delicacies while enjoying a view of the water and a cooling sea breeze.
Located at 1482 East Rodney French Boulevard where Cisco Brewers Kitchen & Bar now sits, Davy's Locker opened in 1966 and was an immediate hit with seafood lovers.
Davy's owners announced the restaurant's closing in an ad in the New Bedford Standard-Times in January 2014, thanking the more than 10 million patrons who had visited the establishment since its opening.
In the ad, owner Jeffrey Dolinsky said, "On behalf of my grandfather, David 'Doggy' Dolinsky, my father Marvin Dolinsku, and myself, Jeff Dolinsky, we want to acknowledge it has been a great run for the greatest restaurant in the history of New Bedford, this fair city...Rest in peace, Dad. Your Sonny Boy feels your presence and guidance every day. It is time to make the bagels, lots of bagels! Sincerely, Jeffrey L. Dolinsky."
A Standard-Times write-up reported the Dolinsky family claimed to have served "more than two million pounds of cod and one million pounds of scallops" at the family's restaurant since opening in 1966.
The paper said many Davy's Locker regulars were surprised to find the restaurant closed.
WBSM reported that "Dolinsky sold the site to Greg and Margaret Kulpinski, the operators of Seafire Grill in the Candleworks Building downtown."
The Kulpinskis opened The Edge at the former Davy's Locker, which closed in September 2017.
