New Bedford Business Owner Shares Feel-Good Story
A Dartmouth woman shared how a local laundromat restored her faith in humanity.
Mallory Alves of Dartmouth is the owner of The Spray Lounge on Rockdale Ave in New Bedford, which provides spray tans among other health and beauty services. As you can imagine, Alves' services are in high demand as we slowly slide into the summer months. It's a SouthCoast small business where every dollar matters.
Alves has been so busy she decided to save herself some time and pay to get the businesses laundry done instead of doing it herself. She employed another local business, Dash Laundromat.
Fast forward and Alves, as reluctant as she was to have someone else do the laundry, took to social media to post how not only efficient Dash was, but how thankful she was that the workers had found money in her laundry and placed it in a tiny bag attached to her cleaned laundry.
Inside was a note, "found in your laundry," along with $80.
Honesty is always the best policy and is the expectation at Dash Laundromat. That's not even the best part of this story.
Sue, the attendant that handled Alves' laundry, has been with the laundromat for 42 years and had been training a new employee, Marie, when they found the money.

"Being an employee for 40-plus years allows me to meet so many wonderful people. Everybody works hard for their money, and it was only the right thing to do," Sue said. "I'm glad this customer reached out to us to thank us. It made my day."
We spend a lot of time paying attention to the bad things people do, but let's remember that every day, time and time again, people are doing the right thing. It's usually when no one is looking and never expecting anything, because to most people doing the right thing is not an exception but the norm.
You may think that it was just $80, but for many, that money is gas to get to work, food for a week or better yet, they difference of whether they can pay their rent or mortgage this month.
