New Bedford Police Investigate Cumberland Farms Armed Robbery
NEW BEDFORD — Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a New Bedford convenience store early Monday morning.
According to New Bedford police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola, at around 2 a.m. Monday, a man dressed all in black went into the Cumberland Farms at 810 Rockdale Ave. at the intersection with Kempton Street.
He then "produced a weapon and robbed the clerk before fleeing the scene on foot," Carola stated.
Carola did not say what the weapon was, or what the man was able to take from the store.
He did note that New Bedford police detectives are actively investigating the incident.
No further details were provided.
The Rockdale Avenue/Kempton Street Cumberland Farms is open 24 hours, according to the store website.
It is located just a few blocks from New Bedford police headquarters.
In 2014, the convenience store saw police foil what they believed was a planned robbery, resulting in two men arrested on drugs and firearms charges.
And nine years ago, in 2013, a man allegedly robbed the same store with a wooden-handled saw.
