New Bedford Homeless Resource Fair Raises Awareness
Rev. David Lima and Carl Alves, dauntless community advocators, want to spread the news of what they're calling an extraordinary, all-encompassing event for anyone who is homeless or on the verge of being evicted.
"We have a lot of working people who are being priced out of their homes, and we have a lot of people who are homeless and living out of their cars," said Rev. Lima, Executive Minister at the Inter-Church Council of Greater New Bedford. "We want people to come and find out about the different services available to them from 40 agencies that work with the homeless community in one form or another."
"More people would come but they don't know about it. We want to spread the news about New Bedford Connect, Wednesday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Bedford YMCA," said Alves, Executive Director of Positive Action Against Chemical Addiction (PAACA). "We're trying to help make people aware and connect them with these services, especially now as it's getting colder. There are resources available for them including safe, affordable housing."

"I think it's important to recognize that this event is open to everyone," Lima said. "If you have a friend you're concerned about, bring them. If you're a renter, and are worried that your rent will go up too high to afford, come down."
"It's not very often that all of these services get together in one place," Alves said. "This is a second-to-none free event for people seeking help."
