New Bedford Man Identified as Victim in Fatal Assonet Crash
FREETOWN (WBSM) — A New Bedford man has been identified as the person killed in a single-vehicle crash in the Assonet section of Freetown Sunday night.
Freetown Police and Fire responded to a 911 report of a serious single-vehicle crash on Copicut Road near the intersection with Bell Rock Road in Assonet at about 11:30 p.m. on July 14.
They arrived to find a 1997 Jeep Wrangler had crashed into the woodline. Outside the vehicle, they located a 29-year-old passenger who was seriously injured. He was taken by the Berkley Fire Department to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. His identity has not been released.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and discovered unresponsive. He was transported by Freetown Fire-Rescue to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as Edmund Arsenault, Jr., 28, of New Bedford.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Freetown Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
