What Is the Women in Defense Greater Boston Chapter (WID GBC)?

Since 1985, Women in Defense has provided members with a business environment for professional growth through strategic networking, education and career development.

“This national alliance is comprised of women and men from industry and defense organizations of every size; all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces; government agencies, academia, think tanks, associations and professional services,” Women in Defense said. “WID is committed to developing future STEM leaders and creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive ... forward-thinking community for emerging leaders.”

The nonprofit works closely with universities such as UMass Dartmouth and UMass Lowell by providing scholarships to women in STEM with interests in national security, providing regional scholarships, and hosting networking events.

Networking by the Sea at Cisco Brewery

Last year’s networking event amassed over 150 attendees from across the region of all different backgrounds, and this year is shaping up to be just as successful.

A keynote speech by Jen Peterson, VP of HR for Airborne and Space Defense Systems for Raytheon, will kick off the event, followed by informal networking, lawn games, dinner, drinks, and enjoying a summer evening by the water.

Cavalla Studios will also be on-site, selling hand-poured natural candles. Cavalla Studios is a local family and veteran-owned candle company that will donate 10% of the event’s profits to Massachusetts Fallen Heroes, Home Base, and Ironstone Farm.

Those interested in joining the event can register online by June 6.

The next STEM leader is out there. Finding an event like this could be the jumpstart to a revolutionary career.
