WCVB/Channel 5 in Boston has reported a tornado watch for nearly the entire state of Massachusetts through 11pm tonight (Tuesday, June 23.)

A tornado WATCH means that the weather is suitable for a tornado to happen.  A tornado WARNING is issued once a tornado has actually been spotted or picked up by the radar.

If a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is wise to follow the procedures suggested by local emergency teams. Waiting to see the tornado for yourself before reacting could cost you valuable seconds in this situation.

Currently, the watch includes the following counties:

  • Barnstable County
  • Bristol County
  • Dukes County
  • Essex County
  • Franklin County
  • Hampden County
  • Hampshire County
  • Middlesex County
  • Nantucket County
  • Norfolk County
  • Plymouth County
  • Suffolk County
  • Worcester County
