This year's Working Waterfront Festival on New Bedford State Pier has a new contest for seafarers and landlubbers alike- a Nautical Tattoo Contest!

The Working Waterfront Festival happens each September and celebrates New Bedford as the nation's largest commercial fishing port. You can walk the decks of scallop boats, eat fresh seafood, watch fisherman compete in various fishing-related contests and tons more that let you experience the industry in more ways than you can imagine.

But this year's festival offers one new contest that anyone with some PG-13 body art can partake in.  The contest rules call for nautical themed tattoos that are PG-13 in appearance and on a part of the body that is not normally covered by a bathing suit. (That  means no bums, please!)  Tattoos will be judged for the artistry, stage presence and the story the piece tells. Prizes include bragging rights, a custom T-Shirt with your tattoo design and gift certificates from area tattoo parlors.

Pre-registration is highly recommended and can be done via text to 508-717-7214 or by email at Info@workingwaterfrontfestival.com. This year's festival takes place Saturday, September 26th and Sunday September 27th with the tattoo contest being held on Sunday at 1:30pm
