Now is the time to sign up as a volunteer “Moby Dick Reader.”

The Whaling Museum's annual Moby-Dick Marathon turns 25 in 2021. Moby Dick is America’s most iconic novel, so mark your calendars for Friday, January 8 to Sunday, January 10 to relive the famous, action-packed narrative and be transported back in time on the search for the elusive white whale.

Although the museum is reimagining all aspects of the weekend-long marathon in this strange time, you’ll still be drawn in by the drama and excitement of the chase.

According to the New Bedford Whaling Museum, most of the activities will be virtual, but there will be plenty of opportunities to dive a bit deeper into the context of the story and its many derived meanings.

There are two reader options. The sign-up DEADLINE is Thursday, November 5.

  1. The beginning and end of the reading will feature readers on-site at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. There will be a strict capacity limitation of 25 people at a time.
  2. Half of this year’s marathon will feature readers joining in remotely. These passages will be pre-recorded and released as one seamless video.

Sign up for the 2021 Moby-Dick Marathon HERE. Readers will be notified by Friday, November 20. Details and schedule of events will be posted on the website as they are finalized.
