Middleboro Man’s Childhood Sled Returned After Taken From Yard
A Middleboro man’s childhood sled was taken from his front yard during the first weekend of March, sparking a plea for its return.
The toboggan-style sled, tied up near his mailbox with wire ties and rope, may have been mistaken for a "first come, first served" curbside find.
The sled's owner Robert Alger posted a heartfelt message on Facebook in hopes of recovering it. Alongside a photo of the sled before it went missing, he wrote:
“To whoever took the Radio Flyer sled, I would like it back. You had to untie the rope and cut wire ties. It was not for free. It was not for scrap. It was over 60 years old. My parents recently passed, and I put it out for a winter display. It is priceless. If it was taken by accident, just bring it back. No questions.”
Fortunately, the sled was returned a few days later, left unaccompanied on the property.
“Thank you to whomever it was that returned my husband's childhood sled!!” said Robert’s wife, Lori.
Though the motives behind the sled’s disappearance and return remain unclear – whether an honest mistake or a case of social media pressure – Robert was thrilled to be reunited with a cherished family heirloom. In the end, that’s what mattered most.
Just let this be a lesson to anyone to chain down anything roadside you don't want to part with by mistake. It just could look like a freebie to someone passing by.
