MIDDLEBORO — Police in Middleboro are reporting an active shooter situation in the area of 201 West Grove Street (Route 28) and Evergreen Drive.

Residents are asked to keep away from the area, or to shelter in place.

Police said an incident of shots fired was reported just after 9 a.m.

Officers responded to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation public works depot at 201 West Grove St. to investigate a report of gunshots.

Police said around four to five shots were fired inside the facility before a male suspect fled on foot into the woods.

No injuries have been reported.

Police have set up a perimeter and are actively searching for the suspect, described by witnesses as a light-skinned Black or Asian male around five feet 10 inches tall and wearing a bucket hat.
He is thought to be armed and dangerous.

 

State police posted on Twitter that troopers are assisting in the search.

According to State Police, the suspect is reportedly wearing fatigues and fled into woods west of Evergreen at Route 28.

A reverse-911 shelter in place call has been initiated, according to state police.
