They identified the victim as Nathaniel Williams, 67, of Middleboro.

“On behalf of the entire Middleborough Fire Department, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the victim's family and loved ones," Chief Thompson said.

Williams was pulled from his home at 6 Locust Street by firefighters who had arrived to battle the blaze. The call had come in at about 9:15 p.m. on December 2, and firefighters arrived about six minutes later to find the first floor fully ablaze.

Neighbors told firefighters that they believed Williams, the sole occupant of the home, was still inside. Firefighters located him near a side entrance and rescued him from the house. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, reportedly suffering from severe burns and smoke inhalation, and later died as a result of his injuries.
