Mattapoisett Market Closes Permanently
Owners at the Pot Market in Mattapoisett have decided to close the business down permanently. It wasn't a particularly long run for Poi, which officially opened for the first time on February 24 of 2023. Eighteen months later, Poi informed landlords at the Rope Walk Shops that they'd be vacating the space.
When Poi first opened, the manager Mark Juitt told Michael and Maddie that the market would be a high-end grocery market with fresh produce and locally procured meats. Products to aid in the preparation of Asian, Italian and American foods stocked the shelves.
Poi also offered a place for a quick breakfast with Uncle Jon's Coffee and danish or a breakfast sandwich in the morning. Then, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Poi switched over to serving what Juitt described as "high-end sushi" and sandwiches.
Poi's permanent closing was confirmed by a manager at Walrus and Captain, Meghan Rider. She said the market has been closed for a couple of weeks.
Kate and Michael Sudofsky, the owners of the Rope Walk Shops and Walrus and Captain, are now on the lookout for a new business that might be interested in taking over the space that was once houses by Boutique Fitness and a number of other shops over the years.
Rider says they are open minded about what type of business could take over the space. "It's setup for a little kitchen, too," said Rider. "They were still doing sushi and Ramen out of there before they closed. They had started out serving breakfast sandwiches and coffee when they first opened."
As of Thursday afternoon, the Poi shelves were still stocked as if they were ready to re-open at any moment.
