Flower Gardens on Display in Mattapoisett [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
If you love flowers and gardens – and there are many who do – then you should think about making the Mattapoisett Woman's Club's biannual Garden Tour part of your upcoming weekend plan.
This year's event is called "June in Bloom" and will take place this coming Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sandy Hering and Kathy McAuliff joinedTownsquare Sunday to discuss the tour and share how you can get involved.
According to Hering, the Garden Tour is always something special.
"The Garden Tour shows a cross-section of the types of gardens, and is always something new," she said. "This year we have six gardens, both small and large, and some with harbor views. Every garden brings something new and different."
The exact locations of the gardens will be revealed on June 24, the day of the tour. Tour maps are available at 9:30 a.m. at Ying Dynasty Restaurant on Route 6 in Mattapoisett. Tickets are $30, ($35 on the day of the event) and are available at local businesses and at mattapoisettwomansclub.org.
All of the money raised from the Garden Tour will benefit the Woman's Club's scholarship fund, along with other philanthropic efforts. McAuliff said the Woman's Club awarded its first scholarship in 1943, and since then has handed out more than $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students.
McAuliff expects more than 500 people to attend this year's tour.
"After a long, hard winter, its great to see people out, all dressed up, and seeing everybody smile," she said.
Townsquare Sunday is a weekly community affairs program heard Sundays at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on WBSM.
