Massachusetts State Flag Isn’t Going Anywhere Just Yet
Judging by her reaction, one might get the impression that Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is not a fan of any of the proposed designs for a new Massachusetts state flag, seal and motto.
Asked during a recent news conference which of the proposed designs she prefers, Healey suggested she has had a full plate and hasn't had much time to consider the matter.
According to State House News Service, Healey laughed when asked about a flag replacement.
"Look, I don't mean to laugh," she said. "But of everything that's going on right now, I support that there was a legislative commission to look at this."
"Sure, I'll have a look at it, and I'm sure there'll be discussion, you know, over the ensuing time and years," she said. "There is going to be more discussion."

The Massachusetts Seal, Flag and Motto Advisory Commission was established in 2024 to find a new state flag, seal and motto, and has whittled down a list of 1,150 recommendations to a handful of finalists.
Some have argued that the existing flag and seal depict Native Americans in a poor light and have demanded change.

Boston.com reported, "Massachusetts Travel and Tourism Executive Director Kate Fox has said the nine designs are still subject to changes based on public feedback."
Both Republican candidates for governor, Brian Shortsleeve and Mike Kennealey, have vowed to keep the current flag if elected next year.
A recent Boston Herald readers' poll shows strong support for keeping the current flag. SHNS reported more than 80 percent of readers favored no change, out of roughly 900 responses.
