
Massachusetts Proven to Have Slowest Urban Driving in America
If you think you're moving slower than anyone else on the roadways lately, your thinking is correct. A new driving study shows just how slow Massachusetts roads are compared to the rest of the country and the results aren't great.
Although Massachusetts managed an average of 60.2 mph on the highways, it's our city streets that are just plain pitiful.
In fact, no other state in the country has slower urban roadways than Massachusetts does.
For those of us that crave an open road, we might be in the wrong state.

That's because according to data from a MoneySuperMakrket.com study on driving around the globe, Massachusetts lands dead last among U.S. states with slow urban driving.
In fact, Massachusetts was the only U.S. state where urban drivers didn't average speeds over 20 mph. We creep along at a dismal 19.6 mph on average when driving though cities and towns.
Perhaps that's not a huge surprise to anyone who has driven in Boston, the city ranked No. 5 for worst traffic in America.
New Bedford has its traffic pockets throughout the day as well and how can we not mention the absolute snail pace it can be traveling out to the Cape in the summer months?

New England weather and outdated infrastructure also factor into the area's slow driving speeds.
Surprisingly, for all its bridge troubles, Rhode Island still came out way ahead of Massachusetts with one of the fastest average urban driving speeds of 27.8 mph.
