Neighborhood Scout is a website that helps people decide where they should move. The site boasts that it publishes "comprehensive reports (that) cover exclusive real estate trends & forecasts, crime data, real estate investment index, demographic trends, job access, school ratings."

In other words, Neightborhood Scout lays out real data that can help you find a hometown and the best neighborhoods for you and your family.

The site just released its Most Dangerous Cities list for 2021. The list ranks the Top 100 most dangerous cities with regard to violent crimes like murder, rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault. It also gives you the likelihood of you becoming a victim of one of these violent crimes. A city must have a population of at least 25,000 to qualify.

Looking over the list, we noticed that there were three Massachusetts cities that were included. Surprisingly, the big cities that you would normally categorize as high crime locations were rarely found on the list. While a lot of crime is committed in big cities, it is outweighed by the number of people living in those cities.

For example, most people would probably guess that Boston would top the list of most dangerous cities in Massachusetts. Boston, however, didn't even rank in the top 100 for most dangerous cities in America.

The most dangerous city in Massachusetts is Springfield, where the chance of being a victim of a violent crime is one in 109. Holyoke also made the list, coming in as the 94th most dangerous city in America.

There was one SouthCoast city that ranked in the Top 100. Do you think it was New Bedford, Fall River, or Taunton?

If you guessed Fall River, you were correct. Roughly three out of four American cities are safer than Fall River, where the violent crime rate is 8.6 per 1,000 residents. Your chance of being a victim of a violent crime is one in 116.

But wait! Before you disregard Fall River as a great city to live in, all is not lost. Here are the three safest neighborhoods in Fall River: Stafford Road/Newhall Street is No. 3; Collins Corner/Fighting Rock Corner (ironic, right) is No. 2; and the safest neighborhood in Fall River is Robeson Street and Highland Ave.

Do you think these crime numbers fairly represent Fall River?
