Massachusetts Market Basket Finally Has the Chicken Salad Customers Wanted

A funny thing happened during this past Sunday's trip to Market Basket.

Just days after I published an article wondering why the grocery chain only sold its popular Market Basket-brand chicken salad in a small container, I rounded the corner to the deli section and nearly stopped in my tracks.

There it was: A 2-pound tub of Market Basket White Meat Chicken Salad sitting right on the shelf.

Coincidence? Probably.

If you missed the original story, here's the quick version. Every Sunday, my wife and I make our weekly pilgrimage through the packed aisles of Market Basket, and one item is always on my shopping list: the store's own chicken salad.

It's my favorite, because it's affordable, doesn't overdo it with the celery and has just the right amount of mayonnaise. My only complaint? It had always been sold in a small container while potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw all came in larger family-sized tubs. When I asked someone in the deli department why there wasn't a bigger option, I was told it was a decision made by headquarters.

A Very Convenient Surprise

Fast forward to this week, and suddenly there's a 2-pound container sitting exactly where I'd hoped it would be. Did Market Basket see the article? Did someone at headquarters decide it was finally time? Was this already in the works long before I ever opened my laptop? I have absolutely no idea.

What I do know is that the timing is pretty incredible, and I'm certainly not complaining.

My Grocery Problem Has Been Solved

Whether this was months in the making or simply the happiest coincidence imaginable, I'm officially a happy customer. No more grabbing multiple small containers or wishing there was a larger option.

Now if Market Basket could just do something about the oblivious people with zero self awareness in the middle of the aisles while others are trying to get by, that would be the cherry on the chocolate cake.
