Man Struggling to Survive After Attleboro Flash Fire

ATTLEBORO — A worker at an Attleboro manufacturing facility is struggling to survive after a flash fire in the building yesterday afternoon.

The Attleboro Fire Department said the man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries after a brief but intense blaze at the Composite Modules building on Union Street.

Emergency crews were called to the facility at 2:42 p.m. Thursday for a fire alarm, arriving to find the building's sprinkler system had already put out the flames.

But the "flash fire" — a sudden, intense burst of flames caused by a flammable substance dispersed in the air — had seriously injured an employee.

According to Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance, the town's police and fire departments are investigating the cause of the fire, along with the State Fire Marshal's Office.
