Fall River Police are investigating after a man was shot Thursday morning.

Lt. Ronald Furtado says that at around 5:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Highland Ave. for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival officers found the victim, identified only as a 53 year-old male, with a gunshot wound to the arm.

Furtado says that there were reports that a male suspect was attempting to enter a second floor window of a residence and was confronted by the homeowner.

The suspect retreated and a second confrontation took place through a closed window between the suspect and the homeowner.

The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, then fired a shot the closed window striking the victim, who was still inside the residence.

Furtado says it's believed the home was targeted and that the shooting was not a random incident.

The suspect is described as an 18-20-year-old white or light skinned Hispanic male, wearing a light colored sweatshirt.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Furtado says the investigation is ongoing.
