The 20-year-old encountered the boa constrictor in the woods on Monday night.

According to officials, the man was walking in the woods near Hiramar Road in Hyannis when we saw a 7-8 foot boa constrictor on the ground. He said that when he saw the snake, it was eating but he decided he wanted to keep it.

The snake then bit him and he was transported to the hospital with injuries to his hand. He has since been released.

Authorities are fairly certain that the snake must have been a pet at some point but abandoned and now it lives in the wild.
