Major Heroin Bust in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD — Members of the New Bedford narcotics unit, working with the Fall River Police Department Vice Unit, took nearly $50,000 worth of heroin off the street Monday, after more than 480 grams of heroin were located in a vehicle.

Eduardo Serrano Aguilar, 32, of Lyon Street in Fall River, was arrested on charges of trafficking in heroin over 200 grams, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to stop for police.

Aguilar was the subject of an investigation into a narcotics delivery service. A search warrant was executed and he was stopped by New Bedford narcotics detectives while driving his vehicle at the intersection of Route 140 and Hathaway Boulevard in New Bedford.

He attempted to flee from police, striking a police vehicle in the process, and was also determined to have no driver's license.

When police searched the vehicle, they located over 480 grams of heroin, with a street value of nearly $50,000. A search of the vehicle and his residence located more than $2,000 in cash.

The arrest was made at 5:21 p.m. Monday.

Aguilar is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing September 25th.
