Jerod Mayo is back with the New England Patriots and the players are excited.

The Patriots' former linebacker is returning to Gillette. This time as a coach.

Jerod Mayo has stayed local in New England since retiring from the team after the 2015 season, but doesn't actually have any coaching experience.

He's been hired as the team's assistant linebacker coach however and that is a position he clearly has lots of experience with.

The job opened up after former linebackers coach and last season's fill in defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, left the team in February to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

People moved up the chain presumably and Mayo got the new gig.

According to his post on Instagram he is thrilled. He wrote.

It is with great excitement, passion, and sense of purpose to share with you that I have accepted Coach Belichick's offer to rejoin the New England Patriots as a Coach. I am eager to get started and work hard alongside so many of my former coaches and teammates, all who I know to be solely focused on maintaining the winning culture we have come to know as the Patriot Way.

The players seem equally excited with Dont’a Hightower commenting "Let's go to work big bruda...I mean coach"

Martellus Bennett wrote "This is awesome"

And even former Patriot Aqib Talib adding "Dope!!! Let me coach yo DBs in a couple years when you head coach!!!"

We'll all start seeing him on the sidelines once again next Fall.
