During the holiday season, there is nothing quite like a charming New England town all decked out with the holiday trim of trees, lights and magic of the season.  According to travelandleisure, three of our little hamlets made the top 25 Best Christmas Towns for 2024.

I make no apologies for loving the holiday season.  I'm not talking about the whole commercial side of the holidays, I'm talking about the twinkle in the trees, the bows on the boughs and the pipers piping from the piano.  Let me have all of it.

We should consider ourselves very lucky to live so close to three towns in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  You can make a day of it in each town.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Tax free New Hampshire shopping is always a favorite for holiday shoppers who want to keep tabs on their wallet.  That's one of the reasons why Portsmouth sees a lot of out of towners.  The town also decorates storefronts and homes with the best of the season.  It lands at Number 20 on the Travel and Leisure list.

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Located just off the coast of Massachusetts, Nantucket is an incredibly beautiful community without the lights and glitter.  They turn it up a notch at Christmas time.  Their Christmas stroll is a big pull.  Take the ferry from Hyannis and be prepared to fill your hearts with mirth and merriment.  Nantucket is number 4 on the Travel and Leisure list.

Ogunquit, Maine

Oh, beloved Ogunquit.  OG is not far from Portsmouth.  It's a small community and you could walk to every place in the downtown area in no time.  As a former artist colony, Ogunquit knows how to dress up for the holiday.  The big event is "Christmas by the Sea" is their most well-known, sure not to disappoint.  Ogunquit is Number 2 on the Travel and Leisure list.

My Honorable mention:  Kennebunkport, Maine's Christmas Prelude.  MAGICAL.

Number one overall on the list, is Aspen, Colorado.
