“Back to school” may look a little different this year, but the need for school supplies is still the same. In fact, the need may be greater than ever before since students are not allowed to share with other classmates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only that, but hybrid programs with some remote learning may mean having multiple items that can easily transport from school to home and back again. And although they may not always be comfortable, masks are essential to stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus and will be mandatory for kids to attend class.

The Rotary Club of Fall River and United Way of Greater Fall River are holding a virtual back to school drive to help students prepare for this strange academic year. Luckily, this online school supply drive is so easy that you don’t even have to get off the couch to donate. From now until Friday, August 21, you can help stuff 300 backpacks that will be fully stocked to support kids in the Greater Fall River area. We are looking to fulfill a need for 1,500 masks so that each student has enough to rotate throughout the week.

If you would like to donate to this great cause, you can do so by simply clicking HERE to purchase something off the Amazon wish list, where it will automatically be mailed to the United Way of Greater Fall River Office. If you would like to send a monetary donation, please send a check to United Way of Greater Fall River at PO Box 2550, Fall River MA 02722.

The backpacks will be distributed to the agencies who work with kids most in-need, guaranteeing the supplies get to kids who haven’t received any yet. Additionally, leftover supplies will stock the ‘teacher’s closet’ which will allow Fall River area teachers to replenish their items as needed throughout the year rather than use their own money. Last year, many teachers used these supplies to send home with kids who were not prepared to work from home.

Some needed items include notebooks, composition books, hand sanitizer, pencils, pens, crayons, etc. Please click HERE to see a list of items requested for this drive.
