Gazelle Honored as Superhero: “I Can’t Wait to Tell My Wife!”
Over the years, Gazelle has made a name for himself here on Fun 107 by recognizing some of the great things people are doing each day in our community. Today, however, the Friends of Jack Foundation turned the tables on the Fun 107 star.
A small crowd from the Friends of Jack gathered Monday morning in the Fun 107 parking lot to surprise Gazelle with something he definitely didn't see coming.
Fun 107’s Gazelle Receives a Big Surprise on National Superhero Day
Today is National Superhero Day, so the Friends of Jack popped into the Fun 107 studio to present him with one of their annual Superhero Awards.
"Each year, the Friends of Jack Foundation honors people and businesses in the community that go above and beyond to make our region a better place," said Friends of Jack Executive Director Peter Cohenno. "We're here today to honor Gazelle for all he has done. Gazelle has helped the Friends of Jack for a number of years now, and he's been a big part of what we've been able to accomplish in our community."
Cohenno highlighted how well Gazelle is able to naturally connect with the audience both on the air and online.
"I mean, everyone who listens to the show obviously knows how much he does by following his social media and just seeing where he's out and what he does (both with the show and on his own). We wanted to come here today and thank him and honor him for everything he's done for us and for the community."
Other Local Superheroes Recognized by the Friends of Jack Foundation
Also honored as a Friends of Jack Superhero was Howie Mallowes, owner of New Beige, Cultivator Shoals, Profile Tavern, Rose Alley Alehouse, and Brewfish. Howie regularly features his restaurants as part of Fun 107's Food For Tots campaign to benefit the Friends of Jack Foundation.
"It doesn't matter whether you're doing it directly for the Friends of Jack or whether you're doing it on your own. As long as you're focused and trying to make the world a better place for kids, that's what's most important to us," said Cohenno. "People like Gazelle, who out of the goodness of his heart, go out, take the time, and spread joy by being with the kids."
Finally, the Fairhaven Call Firefighters Association was honored for their dedication to the town in the face of chronic short staffing. This on-call group of firefighters plays a critical role in the town’s firefighting operations.
Gazelle Reacts to His Superhero Honor
Gazelle said he couldn’t wait to get home and tell his wife that he is officially a superhero.
