‘Kelce’ Compliment at New Bedford Polling Place Boosts Mood
My name is Gazelle and I just exercised my American right to vote. I've never felt more patriotic.
Stepping into the polling booth in New Bedford on Super Tuesday, I felt empowered with the weight of civic responsibility. With each mark on the ballot, I declared my values.
It was great, but the best part of the experience had nothing to do with voting.
As I entered the Ward 4 polling station at Boys & Girls Club of New Bedford, I was shocked to see that I was the only one voting (at that specific time). I explained to the nice ladies at the table that this was my first time voting in a primary. They were happy to assist.
"Is your last name Kelce by chance?" one asked, smiling.
This was not the first time I've been asked this question, as NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce rock similar beards. Perhaps my size plays a role, too.
I assured the woman at the polling place that, no, I wasn't the missing Kelce brother, but it was a compliment nonetheless to be compared to those powerhouses. Everyone knows Travis, 34, has had quite the year. He helped the Kansas City Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls in 2023 and 2024 and is dating a singer by the name of Taylor Swift. Perhaps you've heard of her.
Jason, 36, is also a success. He recently retired from football after 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles and one Super Bowl ring.
Super Tuesday was a day I was proud to be me, a day when I could exercise my civic duty under my own name.
The woman handed me my ballot and directed me to a booth.
Casting that vote brought an unparalleled adrenaline rush as I realized the impact my decision will have on my country. This wasn't just a task on my to-do list but a profound affirmation of the principles upon which democracy stands.
God Bless America.
