The holiday spirit is bright in Freetown with a new map that shows you where you can see some great holiday decorations.

As Christmas gets closer and the pressure of the holiday reaches its peak, it's nice to be reminded of the simple joys of the season, such as those neighbors that take the time our of their busy lives to decorate their homes.

Selectman Carlos Lopes said this is the first year anything like this has been organized and he is excited that submissions for the interactive map continue to come in.

Lopes did mention that it took a little poking around the community to get it started but now the entries are coming in more frequently.

You can view the "Deck The House" Holiday Display Map online and it is updated frequently as more displays are submitted.

There is a little bit of a friendly competition going on to see whose home is the most "decked out," and the judging will be done via the Town of Freetown Facebook page, as the home with the most "likes" wins this nifty sign, a trophy and bragging rights until next year.

The map is organized by Kylie Botelho, Freetown's new Community Program Director, as a fun way to get the community to come together.

"That’s the idea," Lopes said. "There is so much going on in everyone’s life from family to politics that we wanted this newly-created position to utilize all our outdoor space to its max and get people outdoors and enjoy their town."

So did Lopes decorate his own home for the holidays?

"I’m a big believer that if I am asking anyone to do something, anything, that I lead by example," he said.
