The SouthCoast hasn't seen a ton of snow this winter, but you can expect to see literal tons of the fluffy white stuff in Boston this weekend.

Not from Mother Nature however, this snow delivery came down from Loon Mountain and was about three hundred tons worth.

So why does Boston need all this snow? For a free Red Bull snowboarding event of course.

Red Bull Heavy Metal is a single-day street snowboarding competition that brings the mountains into major cities. It got it's start outside the Minnesota State Capitol Building last February and this weekend, will make it's Boston debut.

When is Red Bull Snowboarding Coming to Boston?

On Saturday February 22 from 2:30PM-6PM, Boston's City Hall Plaza will be covered in fresh New Hampshire snow and host professional snowboarders performing some of the most dynamic rail riding in street snowboarding.

Seems ever since City Hall Plaza got it's recent renovations completed, the railings throughout the space have become know as a "too good not to ride" spot for skateboarders and snowboarders.

Getting enough snow to use them (and permission) is usually tricky, but with Red Bull's official mountain partner, Loon Mountain, that problem was soon solved.

The North Billerica excavating company that usually works to keep the roadways clear, actually shipped the snow in this time around setting up a snowboard course for the professionals to enjoy this weekend.

X Games gold medalist Zeb Powell is the headline rider for the event, with other X Gamers like Jaylen Hanson and Pat Fava among the lengthy list of competitors.

The entire thing is absolutely free to the public, so if seeing professional snowboarders ride rails in the middle of Boston sounds good to you, be at City Hall Plaza on Saturday February 22 when doors open at 2pm.

There are lots of New England mountain resorts that offering snow tubing along with their ski trails and snowboard parks. But not all of them let you snow tube after dark surrounded by music and flashing lights.
