First Victim in Fatal Cumberland Crash Identified
CUMBERLAND, R.I. — One of two people killed in a two-car crash in Cumberland, Rhode Island on Monday has been identified as 25-year-old Cumberland resident Sara Laboissonniere.
Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson said in a release Tuesday that investigators believe the crash that killed Laboissonniere took place as the other vehicle was fleeing the scene from a hit-and-run incident.
Police confirmed that the other victim is also a woman, but the Rhode Island Medical Examiner's Office has yet to confirm her identity.

Both victims died at the scene of the two-car crash at 210 Pine Swamp Rd. on Monday afternoon.
Police said the fatal crash took place about a half mile east of the hit-and-run crash, which had occurred moments earlier.
The investigation is ongoing from Rhode Island State Police's Accident Reconstruction Unit.
According to Benson, good samaritans who witnessed the fatal crash had tried to give aid to both victims, but emergency first responders pronounced them both dead at the scene in their respective vehicles upon arrival.
