First Dinosaurs Found in Connecticut, and Now More in Providence
Hard to believe, but dinosaurs once roamed the lands that would eventually become New England. In fact, several dinosaurs walked as close to the SouthCoast as Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. It is believed that America’s first dinosaur fossils were discovered in Connecticut.
According to The Reminder, "The footprint types that riddle this parcel of land include Eubrontes, which are larger prints likely made by a Tyrannosaurus rex ancestor...while other print types on the site include a smaller theropod...more common tracks found in the valley, and anomoepus tracks, which have a track length of three to six inches and are considered to be the first type of dinosaur footprint found...in the early 1800s."
It's incredible that these giant creatures lived over 230 million years ago, leaving behind footprints to prove it! Humans remain fascinated by them.
More than 30 years after the release of the original Jurassic Park movie, we continue to flock to learn more. That’s why Jurassic Quest is such a perennial draw. This year, the breathtaking dinosaur exhibit is coming to Providence.
Jurassic Quest will take place the weekend of November 8-10 at the Rhode Island Convention Center. It’s billed as the largest and most realistic traveling dinosaur experience in North America, featuring true-to-size dinosaurs, including a 60-foot-long, sky-scraping Spinosaurus, an 80-foot Apatosaurus, and a life-sized T. rex!
