Fenway Park Evacuated Before Lana Del Rey Concert
Lana Del Rey fans had been looking forward to her special Fenway Park show for months. In what was supposed to be the first Fenway Park show of her career and the final date of only a few select American shows before the tour heads off to Europe, the show was forced into an unexpected delay Thursday night.
As fans gathered for the start of the show, word spread that Fenway Park was put under a mandatory evacuation. The announcement was posted on Fenway's scoreboard. "Due to pending weather conditions, there will be a delay in tonight's performance. All fans must leave the field seating and open air seating sections and seek shelter inside the stadium concourse immediately. Please take time to assemble all members of your party and calmly proceed inside the stadium concourse."
Lana Del Rey took to TikTok to talk to her fans that were huddled inside the muggy Fenway concourse. "Every time the lightning strikes we have to wait 20 minutes," said Del Rey in a video she recorded from her dressing room at Fenway. "It just keeps striking. What we were hoping for was to fill the room back up by 10 o'clock to at least do an hour-long show at the bare minimum."
@lanawrote Lana Del Rey gives an update about her delayed concert tonight at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. She says she hopes to start at 10, which is in about 20 minutes, or at worst postpone the show to Saturday #lana #lanadelrey #fyp #foryou #ldr ♬ original sound -
Boston has an 11pm curfew for concerts and events, however it is not unprecedented for artists to ignore it. Earlier this year, Madonna kept her Boston fans waiting for hours for no apparent reason. Her performance began at 10:15 on January 8 at the TD Garden and didn't end until 12:20am. Madonna had no regrets about the late show, she repeated the late starts throughout the tour.
Lana Del Rey was eventually able to squeeze in 15 songs once the weather cleared. Today is Lana's 39th birthday. The Fenway crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to the New York native.
