Fast Food Employees and Customers Thwart Two Robberies
One man attempted to rob two north end fast food restaurants Thursday morning, only to end up behind bars.
Jimmy Brooks, 51, with a last known address of 7 Germania St., Jamaica Plains, was arrested after attempting to rob the McDonald's and Burger King on Kings Highway, according to New Bedford Police Det. Capt. Steven Vicente.
At approximately 11:20 AM, Brooks entered the McDonald's at 1080 Kings Highway and went behind the counter in the drive through area, pushing the door open and demanding money. Several employees pushed Brooks away and he left without taking anything.
Brooks then went across the street to the Burger King at 605 Kings Highway.
Once inside the restaurant, Brooks ordered a hamburger. When the employee rang him up, Brooks reached over the counter and attempted to steal the cash tray inside the register. Several employees and customers were able to hold him down until police arrived.
Brooks was placed under arrest and arraigned later at New Bedford District Court where he faces two charges of unarmed assault with intent to rob.
